Welcome to Le Bouchon
Le Bouchon is a grade II listed, 300 year old Georgian building which has undergone an extensive refurbishment programme restoring the building to its former glory. The renovation period lasted in excess of 2 years, working many hours to create the right feel and ambience within this wonderful building, combining some of the original period features with furnishings and classically styled decoration that complements the building.
Sitting adjacent to Le Bouchon Brasserie & Hotel is the beautiful 14 mile Chelmer and Blackwater navigation canal which opened in 1797 and flows from Springfield Basin in Chelmsford to the sea lock at Heybridge Basin near Maldon.
Guests can enjoy a relaxing walk on the riverbank, take a riverboat cruise and sample some of the local ales from one of the many riverside public houses or hire a canoe or small boat and take in the peace and tranquility of the natural surroundings of the Beeleigh weir and the many locks along the channel.

Amazing decor (September 2020)
I only popped in for a coffee on my way through town but was there long enough to be blown away by the decor. The bar area has one wall dedicated to wall clocks of various types. Another wall is dedicated to Art Deco images. There is hardly an area which is not beautified in some way. Well worth a visit.
Stay and dine (September 2020)
Lovely hotel. We done a stay and dine, 3 course meal was delicious. Breakfast the next morning equally as good then back for a cream tea after a little shop. Staff are lovely and very helpful would definitely visit again.
Nice weekend away (September 2020)
We stayed two nights in this hotel and restaurant and had one evening meal.
The hotel is clean, well appointed and comfortable. The meal was very good, the portions not large but adequate and the food of high quality. We had duck breast and lamb rump respectively, both very tasty.
Very very good (August 2019)
Have been twice recently-Excellent drinks in the bar followed by beautiful steak. Thought an amuse bouche should have been given (they claim to be french inspired after all ...)the Black Forest floor was superb. Especially impressed by the knowledge of drinks by the waiters ( haven’t been in any other restaurant where they ask what dry white wine we’d like in the kir) thought it was very bold to include a service tip in the bill but it was well deserved in this case -the service was very good-very happy.
Great afternoon tea (July 2020)
Had afternoon tea for a family birthday celebration for 14 people in a private room and 9 of us went on a boat trip to Beeleigh falls. Food was excellent quality, very fresh and well presented. The emphasis was on the sweet rather than the savoury, which was fine by us. Staff were attentive without being intrusive and made us very welcome. Overall good value and a memorable event.
Always Excellent
We have visited Le Bouchon many times and always found the food and staff excellent. Last summer we took the boat trip and back for lunch - a really lovely way to while away a couple of hours (the sunshine helped of course). Hope they will be offering these trips again later this year - highly recommend. Our latest meal last week was delicious - the garlic & chilli prawns on sourdough was divine - makes my mouth water just writing about it...
Fabulous Le Bouchon Take Away Experience (New Years Eve 2020)
My husband and I tried the LB Take Away menu for the first time on Christmas Eve and loved it. It felt really decadent to have such superb quality food delivered to our door, all beautifully packaged and presented, and cooked to the restaurant's usual high standard. Absolutely delicious! We're going to do it again for New Year's Eve
The best takeout ever (January 2021)
We had to cancel our booking for Friday, so converted it to takeout. Booked a time and collected the food as agreed.
Well what a treat - it was like Christmas with bottles nicely wrapped in black tissue paper. All the accompaniments had little brown card tags. We had ordered from the dinner party menu, starting with Bramble Royale (which came with a printed instruction menu, and everything you needed to make a delicious cocktail.
Then there were canapés, followed by 3 courses. I had the poached duck egg (it was still runny :)) We both had the Wagyu burger followed by a cheese course. Just in case that was not enough, we had lovely bottle of merlot washed down by mulled wine.
It was the best meal of the year. Can't wait to be back in person.
